Boeing's historic first Starliner astronaut mission for NASA is set to launch no earlier than May 6, 2024. This critical test flight aims to demonstrate the commercial space capsule's readiness to transport crews to and from the International Space Station (ISS).

Targeted Launch Time and Astronaut Crew

The launch window for the Starliner mission opens on May 6, 2024, at 10:34 p.m. EDT. Veteran NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will serve as the mission's crew.

Challenging Year for Boeing

The launch attempt comes amidst a challenging 2024 for Boeing. Just days after the new year began, a panel on the body of a Boeing 737 Max 9 blew off during an Alaska Airlines flight.

NASA has also announced two additional potential launch dates for the Starliner astronaut mission:

  • April 22, 2024, at 5:42 a.m. EDT
  • June 1, 2024, at 12:25 p.m. EDT

Launch Vehicle and Liftoff Details

The Starliner spacecraft will be launched atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket. Liftoff is targeted for Saturday at 12:25 p.m. EDT, coinciding with Earth's rotation at Cape Canaveral's Pad 41.
